SF in SF Presents a special screening of the award-winning feature documentary RINGERS: LORD OF THE FANS. The evening will feature a discussion featuring the film's director, editor and fantasy author Peter S. Beagle. Doors and cash bar open at 6:00PM, the event begins at 7:00PM. The screening and discussion will be held in the Variety Preview Room Theater in San Francisco.
Peter S. Beagle is no stranger to The Lord of the Rings. He penned both the screenplay for the Ralph Bakshi animated adaptation and the introduction to the infamous 1970's Ballantine re-issue of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. Mr. Beagle is one of the many outstanding authors featured in RINGERS. A resident of Oakland, Beagle recently accepted the 2011 World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement.
This award-winning documentary highlights the growth of Tolkien fandom, and how The Lord of the Rings has influenced Western popular culture over the past 50 years. Co-Produced & Directed by Bay Area filmmaker Carlene Cordova, RINGERS won the award for Outstanding Achievement in a Documentary at the 2005 Newport Beach Film Festival. The film was a co-production of leading Tolkien fan-site TheOneRing.net and was the Runner-up for the 2005 Slamdance Film Festival Audience Award along with a nomination for Best DVD Release at the 2006 Saturn Awards. RINGERS is distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Peter S. Beagle was born in 1939 and raised in the Bronx. Today, thanks to classics like The Last Unicorn, A Fine and Private Place, and Two Hearts, he is a living fantasy icon. Peter has written many teleplays and screenplays, including the animated versions of The Lord of the Rings and The Last Unicorn, plus the fan-favorite "Sarek" episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. His nonfiction book I See By My Outfit is considered a classic of American travel writing, and he is also a gifted poet, lyricist, and singer/songwriter. He currently makes his home in Oakland, California. Already a famous book and movie, in 2011 The Last Unicorn also became a bestselling graphic novel from IDW Publishing.
